A Charming Voodoo Review

It's always difficult to review a mystery without giving away the plot. This is the description from the back of the book:

Bubble. . . bubble. . .
Whispering Falls is abuzz with the new housing development and new shops popping up all over the magical village.
Cures and trouble. . .
A Magical Cure’s owner, June Heal’s intuition is on high alert and she just can’t shake that something bad is about to happen.
Magic stirs . . .
It must be the upcoming All Hallow’s Eve celebration that has love in the air. Or maybe it’s because there are several more citizens in Whispering Falls.
And trouble doubles . . .
June’s intuition is far from wrong after she stumbles upon new town resident Patch Burr who is lying dead in the middle of his pumpkin patch.

For those that have never read the series: It's a murder mystery set in a small magical village in Kentucky. Shop owner June Heal is our amateur detective. This is definitely a fun series with quirky, likeable characters.

Whispering Falls is changing. There are lots of new shops popping up, and a new housing development. Mrs. Kappes has introduced a lot of new characters in this book. I like how she's adding new people to keep the storyline fresh, but the part of me that doesn't like change (at all) is whining like a baby. lol!

Anyhow, whenever I read (or watch) a murder mystery, I try right at the very beginning to pick the victim and the murderer. Even before I've been properly introduced to them. Sometimes I'm right, but more often I'm not. lol! Well, it was easy to pick the murder victim, since it said on the back who it was. (Fyi, the info on the back is wrong. It's Patty, not Patch who's murdered.) But I was completely fooled by the murderer. Mrs. Kappes has a way of shifting focus to each suspect in a way that makes you think that there's no way they didn't do it, then she pulls the real murderer out of nowhere and ties all the clues together at the end. I love being fooled by surprise endings!

This book is definitely one to pick up, if you like mysteries. It's a fun, easy read that will have you guessing to the very end.

I was provided a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
